The Road Goes On Forever

This week the theme is the open road, stretching on into the sometimes clear, sometimes cloudy, horizon.

I confess that every time I see or hear Johnny Horton, I think of his widow, Billie Jean. Johnny died in a car crash in 1960, so perhaps the above posthumous album is not in the best of taste. He was married, and the woman he was married to was none other than the widow of Hank Williams. Hank had died 7 years earlier of a heart attack, in the back seat of his powder blue Cadillac, while ‘on the road’ to his next gig.  I think it is incredibly sad that Billie Jean was a Country & Western widow twice, and that she lost both her men to the road. Has no one written a Country & Western lament about this?
